10.15.2008 | Old Posts
Well its October the 15th. Blog Action Day 2008. If you read my last post you will know that this years subject is poverty. The aim of today is to get the world talking about it.
Today thousands of bloggers will unite to discuss a single issue - poverty. We aim to raise awareness, initiate action and to shake the web!
So lets “shake the web”. There are a million and one ways to help deal with poverty in our world. I’m not going to go into what and where poverty is because all you need to do is take a look around. Rather I want to point out some very simple ways you can help poverty stricken people around the world.
- Simply digg, stumble etc. this post and tell your friends. Get people talking about poverty.
- Visit Kiva.org and lend some money to an entrepreneur in the developing world.
- Visit change.org and donate to the Global Fund which combats AIDS, Tuberculosis, and malaria.
- Donate your website revenue for October 15th to charity.
- If you have a blog partake in Blog Action Day 2008.
- Donate 1% of your sales for the year.
- Organize an event (such as a gig night) in your local area and donate the proceeds to charity.
- Write a post about poverty and donate £1 per comment to charity.
- Play freerice.com which donates rice through the UN World Food Program.
- Donate some of your time to writing a post like this.
As you can see there are loads of ways to help tackle the current global poverty situation. These suggestions are only to get you started on what could be done. Be inventive, encourage others, take a little time out of your busy schedule and consider just helping a little.
