Crazy Visitor Count

The other day I wrote an article on my ProgTuts site entitled “PHP Optimization Tips“. Yesterday it became a wee bit controversial with a few people commenting that they didn’t like the article. This was due to someone submitting the article on stumbleupon. So I thought “well at least this will get me some traffic”. Well. It did. I’ll let the picture explain.

ProgTuts Visits

We went from an average of 10 visits with a high of 65 visits on Monday to more than 2500 visits yesterday. So I’m pleased we at least got noticed. Although there were a few people commenting obviously a whole load of people read the article that didn’t comment so it might not have been quite as controversial as I thought. Maybe I should write more articles like this in the future.

Congrats. I had a bit of the same when an article I wrote was linked to from a spanish tech website. I was convinced Google Analytics had gone completely screwey until I checked it out.

On the controversial article, it looks pretty good. I figure anything you can do to make it run faster is good, especially if you work in a big company/busy website (e.g. Amazon, Google) where every microsecond your code runs is gold. Didn’t that guy that came to talk to us say that his whole program had only 0.75 seconds to run in?

Anyway, hope your having a good summer!

Peace bud

StumbleUpon can deliver a huge jump in traffic, especially if you get a few thumbs up.

I wouldn’t worry too much about a bit of controversy & feedback. Whatever gets discussion moving is a good thing, I think.
