Welcome to my totally fresh and new blog. For those of you that have followed me in the past will know that not so long ago I decided to re-launch my blog as a fully fledged software/web development blog. As you might have guessed that didn’t pass really due to one main factor. Lack of time. Hence this new v11 of gilbertpellegrom.co.uk.
What happened to the Old Blog?
I must say I was tempted to take the old blog round the back with a shotgun but eventually I decided against it. Instead I have placed the old blog on a sub domain with all of the old content intact. The sentimental in me just couldn’t let it go. So if you are looking for anything from my old blog then you can find it all at http://v10.gilbertpellegrom.co.uk. The reason nothing has been carried over to this new blog is because I wanted to give this blog a totally fresh start.
So what is this New Blog all about?
The main reason I wanted to start this blog from scratch is because I want it to be a personal blog again. I still plan to post things on web development, software, design and such like but I found that I didn’t really enjoy running a “development only blog”. I want to be able to post about life experiences, movie reviews etc. Which leads me nicely on to the new design.
The new blog design
So with the “personal” theme in mind I decided to exercise my design skills and come up with a completely new Wordpress theme for the site. The aim was to make it completely fresh and unique and “me”. I think I have managed to come up with something quite nice.
The majority of inspiration for different parts of the site came from some of my favourite designers, namely Veerle Pieters and Rogie King. Every time I am on these guys sites I am inspired by the beauty and uniqueness of their design and so I aimed to try and create my own unique beauty on this site.
As for the technical side of things I am running on Wordpress 2.7, hosted on MediaTemple. Some cool javascripts that are used in the site include jQuery twitter and flickr feeds (in the footer) inspired by CSSTricks, some jQuery tabs inspired by Klaus Hartl and the ultra cool jQuery Corner plugin by Dave Methvin. I have also used some icons from the great Social Media Mini Iconpack by Komodomedia and the Fuge Iconpack from Pinvoke.com. I also had a shot at creating a few custom icons of my own but didn’t push myself too hard. There is also a cool PHP script which lets me display a plain text subscriber count of my RSS feed.

So what’s next?
So that’s my new site. You should subscribe to my RSS feed to keep up to date with my new posts and developments. And as always I would like to hear your thoughts on the site. Tell me what’s good, bad or totally unnecessary.
