Envato Marketplace Feeds Wordpress Plugin

Today I launched a new Wordpress plugin called Envato Marketplace Feeds. This plugin will let you easily add feeds from the Envato Marketplaces to your blog using the Marketplace API. There is a full settings page which lets you dynamically create a list of feeds with different information. Then in your blog all you have to do is call the function: emf_getfeed(feedID); and input you feed ID. You can create as many different feeds as you want.

WP-CMS 2.0

Today I launched the long awaited update to my Wordpress plugin WP-CMS. If you don’t know what WP-CMS does, WP-CMS is a plugin for Wordpress that changes the functionality of the Wordpress admin backend to act more like a CMS. The blog functionality becomes optional and the focus is on writing pages to make Wordpress as user friendly for you and your clients as possible.

Why not have a look and see what you think. As always comments/insults welcome.

jQuery GCorners

Today I released a small jQuery plugin I created called GCorners. It uses PHP to dynamically create a PNG circle image and Google style CSS to give your elements rounded corners.

I’m not going to say much more here about the plugin other than go and check it out, or download it from the jQuery site now.

4 Ways to Become a Better Programmer

I thought I might share some thought’s with you that I’ve had on how to become a better programmer.

1) Code with Passion

Lets face it, we all hate VB. And if you don’t you should. There is nothing worse than sitting in front of a computer thinking up way’s to explain to your manager why there is a crack in the wall and you have a lump in your head. This doesn’t just apply to VB either. We all have our preferences when it comes to programming. Some languages we love and some we hate. But the thing to remember is how much more productive you can be when you are programming in something that you are passionate about. I see this all the time in my own life. I love doing web based developing and always have some kind of side project on the go. I find it fun, interesting, I learn loads and because of all of these things I am far more motivated to do it. However if you asked me to do some VB programming I might just have to kill you. Now I understand that sometimes we all have to do things we don’t like but in a more general sense stick to what you are passionate about. You’ll be far happier for it.

For those of you that have followed me in the past will know that not so long ago I decided to re-launch my blog as a fully fledged software/web development blog. As you might have guessed that didn’t pass really due to one main factor. Lack of time. Hence this new v11 of gilbertpellegrom.co.uk.
