New Job

So I started my new job yesterday at Aquidata Excel as a Trainee Software Engineer. It’s going well so far. The commute is the hardest part. I’m getting up at 5.45am to get the 6.40am train to arrive at work at 8.15am. I then get the 5.27pm train to get home at 7pm. So I’m a wee bit tired, but I’m sure I’ll get used to it.
Anyway, the job itself is good. The first task I have is to re-develop their website. After that I don’t know yet but looking forward to doing some proper programming. It means learning some new languages which is always good. Just ashame they are C# and ASP.NET, but never mind.

I commuted for month for a journey about the same as yours and I never got used to it (sorry!) Eventually I moved to London and cut it to half an hour each way. Two jobs later and I’m now an 8 minute walk away! Hope you do get used to it though, some people like the time it gives them to read or do something else offline (unless you’ve got mobile internet or something… then you could blog on the train or something).
Glad to hear it is all going well though. Hope the website redevelopment goes well, will you be using GCMS?!

Congrats again on the new job. As Phil said, if you have some stuff to do on the train it’s not so bad!

Thanks guys. If it wasn’t for the fact it was a year placement I would consider moving. But I’m only going to be there for 12 months so I think I’ll just have to bash it out.

Is that Elgin to Aberdeen then? Bit of a trek…I find Aberdeen to Inverness bad enough when me and my girlfriend visit her parents. I used to live in Aberdeen and had to take a 20 minute train southbound to the office. Doesn’t sound much but 5 days a week was a pain, plus I didn’t particularly like living in Aberdeen. Trains aren’t cheap up here either. Now live 2 minutes walk from the office
