Crazy Weekend… v2

10.22.2007 | 1 Comment

Well… what a weekend that was. I’ve called this post v2 because I’m sure a while ago I wrote a post called “crazy weekend” so this is the second installment.

Where do I start? I suppose I should point out that it was Fiona’s 21st this weekend which is the main reason for the manic craziness that has just happened. I went home on Thursday afternoon getting a lift up with my family who were on their way home from their holiday. Then on Friday I went to hire my kilt and took Fiona for a run up to Glenlivet. We had a nice lunch in The Pantry in Aberlour then went a wee walk up part of the speyside way. Then on Friday night we watched “Into The Blue” with Paul Walker and Jessica Alba.

TF2 Meet The Engineer

With the release of the long awaited Team Fortress 2 and the Orange Box I decided I would look at the great “Meet the …” videos that were created for the game. And when I came across this one it was so funny I decided I would post it.

Looks like a great game as well.

Here is a great list of WordPress Theme Hacks from Web Designer Wall. There are some neat tricks in there that even I didn’t know (and considering I’ve been using Wordpress for years thats impressive).

GCMS Released!

10.12.2007 | 1 Comment

Well its finally time to unveil my Content Management System GCMS. I’ve been talking about this for a while and have been working on it now for 4 months. But here it finally is.

GCMS is a CMS written in Php using a CodeIgniter framework. It also includes technologies such as ext, prototype, scriptaculous and livevalidation.

GCMS is fast, easy and free! You can’t really argue with that.

I would like to point out this version is still very “un-finished” and I expect to update this a lot over the next few months. It also doesn’t have an install system yet so manual install only I’m afraid just now. See the GCMS website for all the info you need.

Please feel free to leave any comments, complaints and suggestion as I am keen to find out what other people think. I would also like to hear where anyone uses GCMS so please tell me your stories.

So enjoy this. I hope you have as much fun using it as I have making it.

Wordpress Live Search Plugin

You might have noticed I have a search option in my menu bar now (see my blog page). Its a has a nice little Wordpress Live Search plugin incorporated into it. This means you can search my blog without changing page. All the results just appear below the search box. Its powered by prototype js. Quite cool.

CSS Positioning

I came accross a nice, small and informative site today about CSS Positioning from Barelyfitz.com. If you don’t understand the CSS position rule (ie. absolute, relative, float etc) this is a very useful rescource as it goes through, in simple terms, what all the positions do. Very useful.

Ajaxload

Ajaxload.info is a cool wee site a found a while ago and today I actually used it so I thought I would share it with you. It generates an animated loading gif from a selection of options. Very cool especially if you need customized loading animations for Ajax apps.

Well I hope you like the new look of my site. Its not a huge change from the last look but has some simple changes that I hope will improve the site performance and be easier on bandwidth. Any comments or suggestions are welcome. Enjoy.

Sorry…

10.02.2007 | 1 Comment

Well I’m back to uni this week and I haven’t moved into my flat yet. So I will be quite busy for the next few weeks so bear with me when it comes to posting.

The reason this post is entitled sorry is to apologize for the lack of posts and to apologize for the slowness of my site yesterday and today. MediaTemple say something about an unexpected heavy load on my GridServer and that their engineers are working on it. So again please bear with me until the problems are fixed.

So again… sorry :-(
