I have been doing a lot of work recently on MakeSomeTime and my final year Uni project (which is a web app) and both use a substancial amount of AJAX to power them. So what I want to do here is build on a previous article and outline a practical solution to using AJAX in your web apps using, in this case, jQuery and PHP.
A Pratical Guide to Using AJAX in Web Apps
MakeSomeTime Reviewed on Lifehacker
The other day I was treated as I discovered that MakeSomeTime had been reviewed on Lifehacker.com. If you live in the web world you will realise how big a deal this is, not to mention the traffic and sign-ups I’ve received since Friday night (I actually think the site was down at one point).
“…we like MakeSomeTime for how easy it is for users to track time from anywhere you happen to be working—from home or the local coffee shop.”
This all came literally just after I had implemented invoices and paid pricing plans to the site. So head on over and check out the review and let me know what you think.
MakeSomeTime Now Does Invoicing
I’ve been working fairly hard recently on MakeSomeTime to integrate invoicing into the system. So today we pushed out the upgrade and now you can track your time & invoice like a pro. This follows some smaller upgrades which lead up to invoicing such as being able to add addresses to clients and budget management for projects.
So head on over and check out the blog post and login (or sign up) and get invoicing!
Note: I’ve also updated the demo video on the homepage so let me know what you think of that aswell.
HTML Forms to AJAX Forms The Easy Way
For a while now I’ve wondered if there is an easy way to “AJAXify” forms without taking away from the semantics and functionality of a normal HTML form. So I came up with a simple solution powered by jQuery. The main aim here is to be able to just drop the javascript on top of the HMTL form in a progressive enhancement style so that the underlying HTML form would work even if the javascript is turned off. New Year, New Design
Yet again I have re-designed my site. This is version 15 for those that are counting. It’s not been very long since I re-designed the site using Chris Coyiers WP-Typo theme. However the one thing I always find when I use someone else’s theme is that I’m never satisfied with the way it is. To be fair I’m never satisfied with the way my site looks but I tend to find that my own designs last a lot longer than other Wordpress themes. It’s not that other designs are bad. They’re just not mine. Hence this new design.
I’ve played around with some cool technologies in this version, most notably getting some cool font style’s served by Typekit. I also decided to go for a Maxvoltar style sidebar as I wanted something different from the standard sidebar. This meant I could try the “stuff loads of info in my footer” approach which I actually think is the best looking part of the site. So as always let me know what you think especially if you find any bugs, and yes even criticisms are welcome.
